Star Students enjoy pizza and pop in my room last Friday… thanks to Uncle John for the funds and to my brother, Andrew, for the ancient poloroid camera with which the picture was taken!

Your party looks enthusiastic and well-noted (ie., the kids will work for more celebrations). Hope it was fun for you, too!
I’m impressed with how coolly and respectfully you handled the parking encounter. I hope that the fellow will return the respect in any future meetings. I’m also hoping you don’t have any more edgy events. Can you take a fellow teacher with you periodically (or regularly, preferrably) so that any onlookers start to associate you with the Latino home-folks?
I’m recently home from Leschi where I’m working on getting students for tutors. We have 3 foautists and 2 clarinetists without kids to teach. Next I’ll turn my attention to finding tutors for the 2 violists, 2 pianists, 1 percussionist, and 2 trumpeters who are waiting. One of our viola students is being reared by her grandmother because her mom was killed in a drive-by shooting when the girl was five. Most of the kids are from low-income families, often with only one parent or grandparent at home. The kids are very excited to be learning music and devoted to their tutors, and vice-versa.
Your folks and Andrew are coming for dinner Monday. Aunt Lora’s visit is being a lot of fun.
