After a rigorous interview with the principal of Southeast Middle School (District 6, LAUSD), I was offered a position as an eighth grade language arts teacher. I accepted. I couldn’t have asked for a better placement: a mid-sized (1,350 students), reform-based East L.A. middle school on a traditional calendar. Having loved novels by authors like Sandra Cisneros, Luis Rodriguez, and Luis Alberto Urrea, I had been hoping to work in East L.A., a focal point of Chicano culture. The principal of Southeast Middle, Walter Flores, seems competent and level-headed, and I’m excited to meet the students at his school and to begin my study of Spanish in earnest. I still have many more hoops to jump through: LAUSD teacher training, LAUSD processing, five weeks of TFA Institute training and summer school teaching, applying for education grad. school at Loyola Marymount, finding a place to live, and so forth–but, though I know the challenge will be enormous beyond anything I can conceive of right now, I’m optimistic about the next two years. My best contact info is tim_schlosser@yahoo.com (underscore between “tim” and “schlosser”) or tim.schlosser@corps2006.tfanet.org. I’ll do my best to keep this page current with all major news bulletins. Much love to all from a hot and humid Los Angeles California.

Hello all,
Just writing to say that I've arrived safely in L.A. and things are going fine so far. We're all at LMU hearing about how great TFA is and how we're going to be great teachers but only after a lot of pain and suffering… I'll write more as soon as I get a regular internet connection. Hope all is well in Seattle!
